The Origin of Éscolática

Escolática Floral Atelier & Boutique is named after the founder’s grandmother, Escolática, which means female scholar.

She was a revered village healer and midwife who dedicated her life to caring for others. In her village, she was the woman people turned to in moments of birth, illness, transition, and death. She guided women through labor, tended to the sick with natural remedies, and prepared and blessed the bodies of those crossing into the afterlife.

Escolatica was an Afro-Latina matriarch with French, Portuguese, and Southern European roots, known for her quiet authority, intuition, and deep respect for ritual and care. She gave birth to her only child at the age of 47 and embodied feminine strength, wisdom, and resilience.

Escolática Floral Atelier & Boutique is — a love letter to her legacy that carries her grace and presence forward into the modern world. The brand was created as a space of beauty, healing, and connection, where florals become a language for honoring life’s most meaningful moments.

The founder, Anníe Colon, brings over 20 years of experience architectural design, despite professional success, she felt a persistent calling to return to her roots and work with her hands, guided by the lineage of women before her. Through formal floral training in Paris, London, and New York, and later studying esthetics to better understand ingredients and care for the body, the founder created Escolática as a sanctuary — one that empowers women through florals, self-love, healing, and renewal.
